The civic/social entrepreneur combines the innovative spirit of an entrepreneur with social concern for others in their community.

Civic and Social Entrepreneurs

What could a teenager from Oregon, an African-American male from Harlem, a wealthy businessman from Raleigh, and a former homemaker from a Chicago suburb possibly have in common? They're all members of the growing ranks of civic and social entrepreneurs.
These individuals engage in the creation of a solution to a community challenge on their own initiative. For some, their community is local. For others, their community is the nation or even the world. In addition, many are joining the ranks of social entrepreneurs who are adopting "for-profit" methods to fund their initiatives. This practice is known as social enterprise and is a growing method of financing businesses and nonprofits with a social mission. Some refer to is as a "double bottom line" mission.
Civic and social entrepreneurs are innovative, creative and compassionate. Millions of people are helped each year as a result of their innovations. In addition, racial tensions are eased and millions are helped outside government social programs. The result is that billions in taxpayer dollars are being saved. The dedication of the individuals involved is inspiring.

The mission of Power of One Publishing is focused on encouraging more individuals to get involved in this growing movement so that crime victims, the less fortunate, those in transition or are otherwise displaced can lead healthier, more productive lives.  As these initiatives grow, taxpayer dollars are also saved and  individuals of all ages benefit from the rewards that come from volunteering in service initiatives that build up their communities.
